14th Annual Russell Real Estate Services Golf Outing Benefits Local Make-A-Wish Foundation
My wife Brenda and I had the distinct pleasure of attending the 14th Annual Russell Real Estate Services Golf Outing
to benefit the local Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year the event was held at Blue Heron Golf Club in Medina, Ohio and had to have been the best golf outing that I have ever attended.
The day started out raining and there were concerns about the weather. With God’s blessings the rain stopped and the sun came out. The start was delayed a bit, but in the end we were able to enjoy a great day on the golf course.
Every aspect of the outing was splendid. We were teamed up with a great young couple that made our day. Stefanie and Ben made for wonderful playing partners and we had a grand time.
With all events like this, it requires a great deal of commitment and time for the organizers. They don’t get paid for their time, they donate it freely. In talking with some of the volunteers and sponsors this week, the one thing that I really noticed was the satisfaction that they all got from being a part of it.
I had a chance to interview the organizers; Ron Russell, Ron Chervenak and Jim Hiles after the outing. The immense gratification they got from putting this event together was obvious when you hear what they had to say. Russell Realty has been holding this event for 14 years now and everyone from the brokerage contributes in one way or another. It is a testament to the way this brokerage is run and the family atmosphere that has been built.
After dinner we were introduced to Bianca, one of the Make-A-Wish children. I was touched by how happy she was to have the opportunity to thank us. She was an adorable child and I am sure touched the hearts of everyone there.
Every year there are golf outings put on by companies and individuals all over America to raise money for charity. There is something to be said about giving back to the community. Even when we are struggling with our own issues, Americans will step up to offer a helping hand to those in greater need.
There were many winners in the outing this year, but the big winner has to be Make-A-Wish foundation. The people that took the time out of their busy schedules to be a part of this event made it successful, raising $19,000.
I look forward to the next outing. Even more, I look forward to volunteering my time and becoming more involved in this great tradition. Thank you Ron and Ron for inviting us.
