With the holidays approaching one of the hottest items being looked at by golfers this year are Golf GPS Units.
After doing some research we found that there were over 30 different Golf GPS Units on the market at the present time. They range in price from just under $100 to over $400 and offer a combination of features and styles.
So which Golf GPS Unit will fit your holiday budget?
Let’s take a look at what features and options are being offered in different price ranges.
Under $100 - I found one product under $100 and it comes with the ability to store 10 courses at a time and has automatic course recognition. Although it doesn’t have a complete hole display, the unit does offer accurate real time information. There is a $9.99 activation fee that allows you to upload any of 12,000 golf courses for one year. Not bad for the golfer with a limited budget that still wants to take advantage of the latest technology.
The Izzo Swami 1500 Pictured here is a good GPS for the Money. If you are on a limited budget and still want to take advantage of the benefits of a Golf GPS, then this unit will definitely fit the bill.
The reviews tell the story…. Golfers found this device to be a very good buy for the money.
$100 – $200 – There are several Golf GPS Units priced between $100 and $200. The thing I found interesting was that the ones that were at the lower end of this price range actually received better reviews than the higher priced units. In this price range, the units offer a few more features. The higher end units have more measurement details and some offer displays of the golf hole being played. All of these units required a subscription ranging from $10 to $60 to be able to download different golf courses.
In this price range there are several good buys. If you have a Blackberry, then you might consider getting the GolfLogix Smartphone Membership Kit. You may have to add memory to your Blackberry, but it will be worth it. SkyCaddie, Bushnell, Garmin and SonCaddie all offer good value in this price range.
$200 up - Needless to say, this price range offers the most features and highest accuracy available. All units require that you have an annual subscription in the range of $10 to $60 to
maintain and update golf course information. These units come with full displays and multiple target measurement points. Not only will you know how far you are to the pin, you will know what yardages you need to carry the bunkers, water hazards and other obstacles on the golf course.
There is a great deal of competition in this price range. GolfLogix, SkyCaddie, Callaway and Garmin are popular units, but Leupold is rated higher than any other brand in this price range.
The Leupold GX-I looks to be the best value coming in with a 5 star rating on amazon and a price tag just under $260.
Overall, there is a wide selection of Golf GPS Units available. No matter what price range your budget will allow there is a Unit that will help you to improve your golf game.
