Golf Swing Tips – Tempo is Key
While watching a bit of the LPGA Championship this past week, one thing I noticed that really impressed me was the consistent tempo that the women on tour have.
It reinforced in my mind how important tempo is in the golf swing.
When I am on the golf course, I like to watch other players during their swings. What I have found is that the better players have a much more consistent and even tempo. For some you might be thinking that this is a no brainer, but for the average golfer this is something that is easier said than done.
Here are a few golf swing tips that I have used to help my wife and at times myself to regain a consistent golf swing.
1.) Start with a solid foundation – no matter whether you are teeing off or playing a shot from the fairway, you must have a solid foundation. Your stance should be such that you will remain stable and not sway from side to side or front to back. I like to feel as if I am lightly sitting down, as if I was perched on a bar stool.
2.) Reduce Your backswing – often times players will take a backswing that will change their address position and cause them to either move their head or sway away from the golf ball. This is a recipe for disaster. Try reducing your backswing a bit. Golfers tend to make this mistake when we are trying to get a bit more distance out of the ball. Solid contact will do this without having to extend your swing.
3.) Watch your club face swing through the ball – When I am focused on watching for my club head to swing through the golf ball I find that I swing a more fluid motion and strike the ball solidly and squarely. Again, this may sound like a given, but many amateur golfers tend to look for the ball down the fairway before they have actually completed their swing.
These are just a few things that I try and focus on when I am struggling with my golf swing. They have helped me and others that I have shared them with.
