Golf Tips For Beginners

The popularity of golf has increased tremendously in recent years, with champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods, along with world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral.

Why has golf become so popular?

Much of it has to do with the notoriety of players like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and others. It’s also the opportunity to get outside, network with friends or business colleagues and to play a game that will forever challenge you.

With patience and practice, over time your scores will show improvement, which will keep you coming back.

There are some golf tips for beginners you need to know.

Golf is normally played on an 18 hole course; where each hole has an individual score referred to as “par”.

Par will range from 3 to 5 strokes on each hole, depending on the length of the hole. When you get the ball in the hole in five strokes on a par 5, you “made par.” If it takes you 6 shots, it’s called a bogie, if you made it in 4, it’s a birdie.

You will usually find “hazards” of some sort on each hole. A hazard can consist of water, sand traps or trees. They are placed in strategic locations to make the hole more challenging.

As a beginner, you may want to locate a course that is easier to play, with few or no hazards.

Each player is responsible for keeping his or her own score on each hole.

Because you are a beginner to the game, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously. It takes time to get comfortable with the game; even though the professionals make it look easy.

I recommend that you take a few lessons in the beginning so you can get a feel for the proper swing. This will make a big difference in the long run.
